UPDATE: Waterproof man killed in U.S. 84 auto accident

FERRIDAY — A 27-year-old Waterproof man died Wednesday night after he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tractor-trailer in the opposing lane on U.S. 84 in between Ferriday and Jonesville.

Richard E. Nelson was traveling west on U.S. 84 when he lost control of his 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe and crossed into the opposing lane, according to a press release from the Louisiana State Police.

Andre T. Lowery, 40, of Magnolia, was traveling east on U.S. 84 in a tractor-trailer and collided with Nelson.

LSP troopers responded to the crash at approximately 9:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Nelson was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead, the release stated.

Lowery was wearing his seatbelt and received minor injuries.

Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
