NATCHEZ — A Fayette man was arrested and approximately $45,000 in suspected drug money was seized after Metro Narcotics officers reportedly smelled marijuana during a traffic stop.
Lerenzo Tenner of Fayette was arrested on charges of possession of schedule IV substance (promethazine with codeine) with intent to distribute, possession of schedule III substance (Xanax), possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, no seat belt, no insurance and driving under suspension following the 10:45 a.m. stop Monday.
According to an Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the arrest was made after Metro Narcotics agents stopped Tenner in a Cadillac Escalade on Melrose Avenue for driving without a seat belt. After agents reportedly smelled marijuana, they received permission and searched the vehicle, reportedly finding scales, a .33-caliber rifle, assorted pulls, promethazine with codeine and marijuana.
Agents also reportedly found $45,000 in suspected drug money.
According to the ACSO spokesperson, the vehicle was also seized and the district attorney’s office will determine if Metro Narcotics retains it.
Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said Tenner is believed to be a major player in local drug trafficking.
Tenner was detained on a $28,250 bond.
