NATCHEZ — A Natchez man is in stable condition in a Jackson hospital after being wounded in a shooting Wednesday night that police is the result of an ongoing feud between two families.

Natchez Detective Jerry Ford said Joshua L. Beamer, 31, 1223 Daisy St., was shot in the buttocks after a verbal argument with the son of a woman Beamer’s mother had an altercation with earlier in the day.

Beamer and the suspect were reportedly verbally arguing when Beamer ran to get a gun out of his sister’s car, Ford said. The two families, Ford said, live around the block from each other.

When Beamer returned, Ford said, the other son began shooting at Beamer and struck him.

Beamer was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center by his sister, Ford said. On the way, Ford said, Beamer’s sister called her mother and told her that Beamer had been shot.

Beamer’s mother reportedly went to the other family’s house and began shooting at it in retaliation.

The other family reportedly came outside and began shooting back at Beamer’s meeting, Ford said.

No one was injured in that shooting, Ford said.

No arrests have been made at this time, Ford said, but are expected later today.
