NATCHEZ — Services for Cleveland Moore Sr., 92, of Natchez, who died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. LeRoy White officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Moore was born April 23, 1921, in Natchez, the son of Meredith and Lena Washington Moore. He was employed by the Natchez Box Factory and Mississippi Valley Gas Company. He was retired.
Mr. Moore served on the deacon board at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church, Deacon Progressive Club, NAACP, Freedom Fund chairman, World War II veteran and American Legion Organization.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy James; one grandson, Jerry Rice; six sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Katie Ruth Smith Moore; three children, Estelle Swayze, Cleveland Moore Jr. and wife, LaDonna, all of Natchez, and Margaret Anne Ward and husband, Robert, of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Lonnie Carl Moore and wife, Claudia, Debra Moore, Aubrey Moore, Ronnie Rice and wife, Stella, Ashleigh Brooks and Katie Moore, all of Natchez, Michael Briggs and wife, Shinita, of Houston, Shelia Albert and husband, Terence, of Shreveport, La., and Johnathon Anderson of Pearland, Texas; 16 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; three adopted children, Larenza Jones and husband, Henry, Diane Flemings and Jessie Turner and wife, Helen, all of Natchez; nine godchildren; special friend, Jerome Burton of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
