Ben Hillyer / The Natchez Democrat — Rescue crews work to extract Brenda Strickland, 57, of Natchez, from her 2004 Pontiac after an accident on the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Street shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday. According to the Natchez Police, the accident happened after the 2005 Ford Escape driver Albert Cain, 63, of Natchez, was driving into the northbound lane, striking Strickland’s vehicle. Emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue Strickland. Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said Cain had apparently blacked out in reaction to medication he had taken. Ford said Strickland suffered a broken leg and was transported by air to an Alexandria hospital. Cain was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
