NATCHEZ — Services for Paul Thomas Shaifer, 92, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 8, 2013, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Doug Broome officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Shaifer was born July 18, 1920, in Jena, La., the son of Wesley William Shaifer and Lottie Taylor Shaifer.

He was a charter and lifetime member of the Royal Order of the Moose, a member of the American Legion for 66 years and a member of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Shaifer was a banker for 39 years with Deposit Guaranty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul Gary Shaifer; one brother, Hubert Shaifer; and one sister, Opal Brown.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Esther Ourso Shaifer; three daughters, Gwen Parker of Lafayette, Tenn., Andrea Shaifer of Kenner, La., and Darcel Angelloz and husband, A.J., of Grosse Tete, La.; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Shaifer of Natchez; six grandchildren, Duane Verucchi, Dee Ann Case, Brian Shaifer and wife, Dannette, Haley Walker and husband, Eric, Luke Wallace and wife, Denise, and Emily Hymel and husband, Brad; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Olga Hymel and Mary Alma Gossett.

Pallbearers will be Duane Verucchi, Luke Wallace, Brad Hymel, Eric Walker, Brian Shaifer, Guy Hymel Jr. and Guy Hymel III.

The family extends a special thanks to Clara Wright, Elmira Fleming, Kim Gilmore and Donna Martello.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or First Baptist Church in Natchez.
