HATTIESBURG — The Natchez T.M. Jennings 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars held on for a 9-8 win over the Hattiesburg All-Stars Saturday morning at the district tournament.
Starting pitcher Ernest Woods gave up six runs in four and one-thirds innings. Jacquan Johnson picked up the win after holding the host team to just two runs over one and two-thirds innings.
“Ernest pitched a heck of a game. To do what Jaquan did today, he pitched very well,” Natchez coach Willie Wesley said. “I’m proud of how (the team) played. They played good fundamental baseball.”
Wesley also said he was proud of how well his team hit the ball and they can get even better. Which could be a bad thing for the rest of the teams that Natchez could face in the tournament.
Tyler Conner scored three runs, Jahiem Ivory and James Singleton both score twice, and Woods and Trayvon Conner each scored one run. Singleton also went 3-for-3 at the plate while Devonta Stancel was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Tyler Conner was 2-for-4, Johnson helped his own cause with a double, and Kelvin Jones added a double.
“Everybody on the team did a good job. I was very pleased with that,” Wesley said.
The Natchez 11-12s will take on the winner of the Hattiesburg/Quitman game today at 9 a.m.

HATTIESBURG — The Natchez T.M. Jennings 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars didn’t fare as well in their 9 a.m. game Saturday at the district tournament as the 11- and 12-years-olds did as the 9s and 10s fell to the host Hattiesburg All-Stars in four innings.
“We played real sluggish. We didn’t show up (this morning),” Natchez 9-10s head coach Jerome Timmons said. “We made too many errors.”
Javontae Washington was charged with the loss and went three innings. Travon Henry pitched the fourth inning. Washington also had a double.
The Natchez T.M. Jennings 9-10 All-Stars wouldn’t have long to get over that loss as they played another game on Saturday.

HATTIESBURG — Javontae Washington’s inside-the-park grand slam home run in the fourth inning highlighted an amazing rally from a seven-run deficit as the Natchez T.M. Jennings 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars defeated Quitman Saturday afternoon at the district tournament.
“We had a pretty good comeback,” Natchez 9-10s coach Jerome Timmons said. “We were down 9-2 in the third inning. They just got the bats swinging. Everybody hit.”
Dekaron McGruder struck out three batters to pick up the win, scored two runs and had two runs batted in. Travis Berry went 2-for-3 with a double and Jerome Timmons III also had a double and scored a run. Tyrese Brown and R.J. Simpson each scored three runs.
The Natchez 9s and 10s next take on Hattiesburg at 9 a.m. today.
