NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Mary Virginia McCoy Bonds, 87, of Savannah, Ga., formerly of Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Doug Broome officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends and family from 2:30 to 4 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Natchez immediately following the services.
Mrs. Bonds was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Byhalia, the daughter of L.D. McCoy and Lucy Mae Duvall McCoy.
She was a 1946 graduate of the University of Mississippi with a bachelor of arts degree in education. She taught at Shaw Elementary School, Oxford Elementary School, Natchez public school system and Trinity Episcopal Day School.
Mrs. Bonds was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and was active for a number of years with the Pilgrimage Garden Club, Delta Delta Delta Sorority and the Natchez Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
For a number of years, Mrs. Bonds was an avid golfer, and in her later years, enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves.
Mrs. Bonds was a true southern lady and was loved and admired by all who met or knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 35 years, Honorable Robert A. Bonds Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Robert A. Bonds III and wife, Jeanne, of Raleigh, N.C., and Dow Bonds of Savannah; two sisters, Elsie Bornman of Tupelo and Dorothy Vance of Grenada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Natchez Memorial Fund.
