NATCHEZ — Gary Haygood is a collector of unique things, both great and small.
But the Natchez resident often doesn’t have to leave the comfort of home to uncover his next treasure, thanks to “The World’s Online Marketplace” — eBay.
Haygood purchased both of the trucks visible in his driveway near Seargent S. Prentiss Drive online. Clearly, though, one truck is more visible than its neighbor.
It’s difficult to miss the bright red Ford F-350 that weighs in excess of three tons. The behemoth easily hides the converted 1972 Honda N600 sedan pick-up truck, which weighs in at just more than 1,000 pounds and 10-feet long.
“I like unique things,” Haygood said. “And they’re definitely unique.”
Haygood bought the two-cylinder Honda on eBay seven years ago and has enjoyed showing it off ever since.
“It gets a lot of attention at car shows,” he said. “People stop me two or three times a week to ask me about it.”
Approximately 50 Honda N600 sedans were imported into California in 1972, Haygood said, and were converted into pickup trucks. Only three of these conversions remain to his knowledge.
Haygood got his “monster” Ford on eBay three years ago.
“It’s just a great truck,” he said. “It gets just as many looks as the Honda.”
Although he likes his trucks, he says he will find something new eventually.
“One day I’ll sell it (the Ford),” Haygood said. “I’ll just park it by the road and leave the window cracked to take bids.”
He says he’s not sure what may come next.
“I like the new Dodge Rams,” Haygood said. “But who knows, I like unusual things.”
