Great Balls of Fire: Delta Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll in Jerry Lee’s Hometown

The Louisiana Soundtrack Experience will stop in Ferriday Saturday at the Arcade Theatre, the fourth stop in its tour of the state.

The experience aims to celebrate and explore Louisiana’s musical history.

“Great Balls of Fire” will kick off with a panel discussion; “Preserving Our Musical Heritage” from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Panel members include musicians, authors and professors.

After the panel, Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne will present the film, “Sunshine By the Stars: Celebrating Louisiana Music.” The film features many of Louisiana’s biggest musical stars performing versions of one of the state’s most popular songs, “You Are My Sunshine.” The film will be shown from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

A live music concert will follow from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The Matthew Davidson band will open for headliners Kenny Bill Stinson and Easy Eddie & the Party Rockers.

All events will take place Saturday at the Arcade Theatre on 216 Louisiana Ave. in Ferriday. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Natchez Art Association Drawing Class

The Natchez Art Association will sponsor a basic drawing class tonight. Leon Hollins, an art instructor with 30 years of experience, will be teaching the class. He will teach sketching and drawing shadow and light on objects from life. All supplies will be provided. Admission is $25 for Natchez Art Association members and $40 for non-members. Membership is $25.

The association has oil painting and jewelry making classes planned later in August. The class will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Natchez Art Association located on 118 N. Pearl St. No. 105. For more information, call 601-870-7717.

Natchez Little Theatre’s Awesome Stuff Sale fundraiser

Vintage and unique items will be for sale Saturday to raise money for repairs on the Natchez Little Theatre building.

A large selection of items donated from Natchez Little Theatre board member and other friends of the theatre will be set up in the green room of the theatre.

“It’s beautifully organized — we will have aisles full of merchandise, like going into a store,” NLT board of directors secretary Judy Wiggins said.

Items for sale include baked goods, clothing, accessories, paintings, children’s items and everything in between.

“We have everything from beautiful evening gowns to mounted deer heads,” Wiggins said.

The board has prepared for the sale for two months and hopes the community comes out to support the theatre, Director Layne Taylor said.

The sale will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Natchez Little Theatre on 319 Linton Ave.
