SANTA FE, N.M. — Fielding errors plagued the Vidalia 13- and 14-year-old All-Stars as they fell 12-3 to the New Mexico state champions Friday in the Junior League Southwestern Regional Tournament.
Vidalia was down 11-1 in the top of the fifth inning and was unable to mount any kind of offensive attack throughout the game.
“We had good pitching, we just had fielding errors,” Vidalia 13s and 14s head coach Wesley McCarver said. “We let pop ups hit the ground, and we threw the ball around a times. But we didn’t give up.”
Bailey Jordan took the loss, pitching two innings and allowing four hits.
Laken Hood was the highlight of Vidalia’s hitting Friday, as she went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
“The main thing is, I told them I was proud of them,” McCarver said. “We’re seeing some unbelievable competition out here.”
Vidalia will play the host team, Santa Fe Metro, at 11 a.m. today in the loser’s bracket.
“We’re going to do better tomorrow,” McCarver said. “I feel we can pull out of it.”
