NATCHEZ — The Natchez Board of Aldermen have voted to explore the possibility of changing the city charter to make the position of city clerk an appointed rather than an elected position.
Alderman Dan Dillard made the motion, which was seconded by Alderman Ricky Gray and passed unanimously.
Dillard said he offered the motion in part because he did not know how accurate city financial statements are.
“This current administration has done all we can do to bring the city’s financial house into order, but to date we still do not have an audit that states last year’s records are in order,” Dillard said.
The motion as passed instructed City Attorney Hyde Carby to draft a resolution to amend the city charter to change not only the clerk’s position but also that of the municipal judge to an appointed position.
