NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Talmadge Hutchins, 89, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dick Root and the Rev. Jerry Hutchins officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Hutchins was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Warren County, the son of T.L. Hutchins and Nellie S. Hutchins.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the beginning of World War II at the age of 16 and served his country in the Philippines and various other locations throughout the Pacific. During combat as a member of “the Greatest Generation,” he was awarded several medals and citations for bravery, leadership and marksmanship. After the war, he returned to Natchez and was employed by Armstrong Tire Company. He retired as senior maintenance foreman after 39 years of service.

He was a member of The Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Harlon Poole; his sister, Emily Babin; and his great-grandson, Kyle Hutchins.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Kathleen Vines Hutchins; one son, Alan Hutchins and wife, Stephanie, of Natchez; one daughter, Frances Burr and husband, Steve, of Meadville; three grandchildren, Chris Hutchins and wife, Skeeter, of Natchez, Lauren Henderson and husband, Keith, of Belgium,  and Audry Benavente of Guatemala; five great-grandchildren, Kailey Hutchins, Rhett Henderson, Bailey Jane Henderson, Krista Benavente and Alexa Kathleen Benavente; and one brother, Jerry Hutchins of Monroe, La.

Pallbearers will be Chris Hutchins, Cliff Murray, Bud Vines, Keyn Murray, Kirk Williamson and Ike Williamson.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
