NATCHEZ — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early Saturday morning armed robbery of a 24-hour service station on U.S. 61 North.
Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said deputies responded at 3:51 a.m. to a panic alarm at the Kaiser Mobil Mart.
When they arrived, the deputies were told that two men — one with a handgun — entered the store and went behind the counter, taking a bag of money with approximately $800 in cash, Mayfield said.
Only one employee was at the store at the time of the robbery, and while reports said the employee received minor injuries Mayfield said he did not know the nature or extent of those injuries.
Though the deputies arrived on the scene within five minutes of getting the call, the suspects had already left the area.
The sheriff said that while two suspects entered the store, investigators believe four people were involved with the robbery.
Two people have been taken in for questioning and the sheriff’s office is actively searching for the other two, Mayfield said.
The sheriff said he expects arrests will follow this week.
