NATCHEZ — Media General blocked DISH customers in Jackson Monday from accessing WJTV (CBS channel 12) as the two parties continue to negotiate a new carriage agreement.
“We’ve attempted to reach a fair agreement via many avenues, but Media General remains immovable in its demands,” said Sruta Vootukuru, DISH director of programming. “They declined a contract extension, an offer from DISH to pay our competitors’ rates, and have now refused our willingness to match rates paid to other area broadcasters. Media General is overreaching by trying to force DISH customers to pay more than their neighbors.”
Cable ONE also announced Monday it removed Turner Network channels CNN, CNN en Espanol, Headline News, Turner Classic Movies, TruTV and Boomerang from its channel line-up following the expiration of the Cable ONE/Turner Network contract.
Following this announcement, Turner Network deauthorized signals to TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network, despite the fact that Cable ONE has a valid contract to continue carriage of these channels.
“Turner has chosen to punish our customers by deauthorizing the signals for these channels so that they will no longer receive them,” said Trish Niemann, Cable ONE Public Relations Manager. “We believe that they have deauthorized these channels in retaliation for us dropping their less popular programming.”
Cable ONE has announced they will be crediting customers. Customers do not need to call in to receive their credit – it will automatically be applied to their next billing statement.
