FERRIDAY — Funeral services for Virgie Beatrice Martin, 84, of Frogmore, who died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, was at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Larry Wagoner and the Rev. Elbert Sanson officiating.

Mrs. Martin was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Sicily Island, the daughter of James and Mary Tarver. She was a member of Dunbarton Baptist Church in Dunbarton. She was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, crocheting and caring for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Martin Sr.; her parents; and a brother, Tom Tarver.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Davis and Sue Cross and husband, Butch, of Frogmore; three sons, J.D. Martin and wife, Diane, of Clayton, James Martin and wife, Connie, of Dunabrton, and Luke Martin Jr. and wife, Karen, of Ferriday; a sister, Hazel Rowe of Vidalia; a brother, Bill Tarver of Vidalia; four granddaughters, Carla Davis Smith, Emily Martin Weeks, Rebecca Martin and Mallory Martin; three step-grandchildren; 20 great-children and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were grandsons Joey Davis, Jason Martin Sr., Bubba Cross, Sam Martin, Jacob Martin, Casey Martin, Luke Michael Martin and Blake Martin.
