VIDALIA — The Vidalia Vikings nearly rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit, but Avoyelles scored a late touchdown to thwart the comeback as the Mustangs held on for a 38-24 win in an LHSAA District 3-3A game Friday night at Dee Faircloth Viking Stadium.
Vidalia trailed Avoyelles 22-8 at halftime. However, instead of allowing the opposition to turn the game into a blowout, the Vikings made a game of it and cut the Mustangs’ lead to 30-24 early in the fourth quarter. But the Mustangs’ touchdown and two-point conversion late in the game ended all hopes of Vidalia putting a halt to their losing streak, which now stands at six in a row.
Vidalia (2-6, 0-3) hits the road Friday at 7 p.m. when it visits Caldwell Parish.
