LHSAA roundups: Vidalia falls to Caldwell, Ferriday loses

COLUMBIA, La. — Vidalia High School saw its losing streak extend to seven games in a row as the Vikings were defeated by the Caldwell Parish Spartans 54-14 in an LHSAA District 3-3A game Friday night.

Vidalia could not get anything going offensively and had a hard time slowing down the undefeated Spartans in the first half. The result was a 35-0 lead for Caldwell Parish at halftime.

The Vikings finally scored their first touchdown in the third quarter, but when that quarter was over, they trailed the Spartans 47-6. Vidalia scored a touchdown and added a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Vidalia (2-7, 0-4) will look to end its season with a win at 7 p.m. Friday when it plays at Buckeye.

JONESBORO, La. — The Ferriday Trojans were just 5:26 away from getting their first win since early in the season until Jonesboro-Hodge put a stop to that just 15 seconds later as the Tigers held on for the win in LHSAA District 2-2A action Friday night.

Jonesboro-Hodge led Ferriday 16-6 at halftime before Ferriday responded in the second half with two touchdowns and one two-point conversion to take its first lead of the game at 20-16.

However, the Tigers returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and added the two-point conversion to retake the lead. Their defense made sure that the Trojans would not see the end zone the rest of the game.

Ferriday (2-7, 0-4) ends its season with a road game at Lake Providence at 7 p.m. next Friday.
