Monterey girls get second win, boys lose

MONTEREY — Fresh off her game-winning free throw in Monterey’s win against Silliman at the ACCS Girls’ Tip-Off Tournament, Jody Duncan scored 11 points to help the Lady Wolves defeat the Sicily Island Lady Tigers 49-25 in their home opener Tuesday night.
Duncan was joined by Karlee Woodruff with 11 points in leading Monterey in scoring and Tiffany Weeks added 10 points. No one for Sicily Island scored in double figures, with Kalia Phillips coming the closest with nine points, followed by Myesha Lewis with five points.
The Lady Wolves dominated Sicily Island on both ends of the court in the first quarter en route to a 10-1 lead. When halftime arrived, the Lady Tigers found themselves trailing the Lady Wolves 24-10.
The only quarter in which the Lady Tigers managed to score in double figures was the third quarter with 10 points. However, the Lady Wolves extended their lead by scoring 14 points in that quarter for a commanding 38-20 advantage.
Monterey (2-0) next plays at Georgetown at 6 p.m. Friday.
Sicily Island boys 59, Monterey 53
MONTEREY — Sicily Island’s varsity boys’ basketball team made sure the visitors from Catahoula Parish would leave with a split against Monterey as the Tigers held on for a six-point win over the Wolves. No other information on the game was available.
Monterey (0-1) plays at Georgetown Friday night following the varsity girls’ game.
