11:08 Sammie Alford obitpicKOKOMO — Funeral services for Samuel Eugene “Sammie” Alford, 85, of Kokomo, who died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m. today at Capps Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Randall Dunaway, the Rev. Joe Blackwell and the Rev. Mark Wicker officiating.

Burial will follow in the Elliott Cemetery under the direction of Hartman-Hughes Capps Funeral Home in Tylertown.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. until service time today, at the funeral home.

Mr. Alford was born March 26, 1928, in Walthall County, the son of Samuel Nathaniel and Hattie Magee Alford.

He was a manager of Livestock Producers for 30 years; member of Magee’s Creek Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. He was also a member, officer and former master of Varnal Masonic Lodge No. 282, a Wahabi Shriner and a York and Scottish Rite Mason.

Among his many accomplishments were, star basketball player at Salem during his high school years, past president of Mississippi Cattleman’s Association and a recipient of the Walthall County Chamber of Commerce Friend of Ag award. He enjoyed traveling and camping, playing dominoes, working on his farm and making people laugh with his jokes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Madron Harvey Alford; brothers, Emmette Alford, Farrol “Preacher” Alford, Harold Alford and Vernon Jasper Alford; sisters, Louise Bacot and Hilan Magee.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Reid Alford of Kokomo; son, Vernon Alford and wife, Breeze of Tylertown; step-son, Randall Dunaway and wife, Tammy of Philadelphia; sister, Christine Alexander of Jayess; grandchildren, Lou Ellen Stout and husband, Guy, Jennifer Slonaker and husband, Jed and Samuel D. Alford; step-grandchildren, Davy Dunaway and wife, Nicole and Kanah Lovern and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Slade Miller, Austin Miller, Payton May and Sam Stout; step-great-grandchildren, Sallie Stout, Jackson Dunaway, Hattie Lee Dunaway, Emmie Kate Lovern, Ella Klaire Lovern, Brittani Slonaker, Whitney Slonaker; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Davy Dunaway, Slade Miller, Samuel Alford, Austin Miller, Payton May and Sam Stout.
