McAllister, Riser vie for Congress in today’s election

VIDALIA — The election to decide who will be the next Congressman from Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District is today.
The race is between two Republican candidates, businessman Vance McAllister of Monroe and State District 32 Sen. Neil Riser of Columbia.
Voting will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
McAllister and Riser were the top vote getters in a primary field of 14 candidates. Riser received 32 percent of the ballot, while McAllister received 18 percent.
The race is to fill the unexpired term of former Rep. Rodney Alexander, R—Ruston, who resigned in September to take the helm at the state Department of Veterans Affairs.
The term will expire Jan. 3, 2015.
