Saint Mary’s handles Alcorn State, 72-55

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Kerry Carter came off the bench to score 15 points Sunday night, including three 3-pointers, to help Saint Mary’s cruise to a 72-55 win over Alcorn State and remain unbeaten.
Alcorn State (3-2) jumped to a 15-8 lead, but Stephen Holt hit a 3-pointer and Saint Mary’s (5-0) began to claw back, then took a 21-20 lead on another 3-pointer by Holt and pulled away for a 42-28 halftime advantage.
Holt had 12 points and Brad Waldow added 11 for the Gaels, who shot 41.4 percent from the field on 24-of-58 shooting.
Saint Mary’s opened the second half with a 7-point run as Carter hit another one of his 3-pointers and Saint Mary’s steadily pulled away. The Gaels shot 41.4 percent from the field on 24-of-58 shooting.
Octavius Brown led the Braves with 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and LeAntwan Luckett added 12 points. Alcorn State shot 37.7 percent from the field on 20-of-53 shooting.
