NATCHEZ — A Maltese mix dog whose eye had to be removed after it was poked out is in need of donations to help cover her medical bills.

Natchez-Adams County Humane Society board member Linda Kennon said the dog, who has been named Holly Snow for her white color, was dropped off at the shelter a few days ago with an inured left eye.

Kennon said a woman who dropped off Holly Snow said the dog wandered up to her house.

“But her story continues to change, so we don’t know what happened,” Kennon said.

The dog’s eye was removed in surgery Wednesday at Natchez Veterinary Clinic, and she was also spayed.

Kennon said Holly will remain at the clinic for a few days until she is well enough to be placed in foster care, where she will remain for a couple of weeks until she is healthy enough to be adopted.

“She is very sweet and loving,” Kennon said. “She’s so forgiving, knowing what she’s been through, and just as sweet as she can be.”

Holly Snow is also being treated for heartworms.

The dog’s medical bills total $600, and Kennon said she is hoping community donations can help the humane society pay the bills.

Anyone wishing to make donations for Holly can drop them off at the shelter, located at 392 Liberty Road, or next door at Natchez Veterinary Clinic. Donations can also be made online at natchezpetadoptions.org or mailed to NACHS at P.O. Box 549, Natchez, MS 39121.

Kennon said donors could be helping more than just Holly when they give money to the shelter.

Any donations exceeding the $600 needed for Holly Snow will be put in an account the humane society reserves for animals brought in requiring special medical care.

Donations collected in April for Miss Prissy, a Pomeranian whose back left leg was run over by a car, exceeded the amount needed to pay for Miss Prissy’s bills. That money was placed in the account and used for other injured animals that were brought into the shelter.

“We just really appreciate everybody who donates,” Kennon said.
