GLOSTER — Funeral services for Edwina Sorrels Hyer, 78, of Gloster, who died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at her residence, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Beaty officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery in the Homochitto Community.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Edwina was born Dec. 5, 1935, in Amite County, the daughter of Iddo Sorrels and Ernestine Poole Sorrels. She was the director of the Mississippi Welfare Department of Amite County for 35 years, and she was a Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Donna Oswe Johnson and Lyndell Sorrels Cassels.

Survivors include one son, Robert S. Hyer Jr. and Sarah Middlebrooks; one daughter, Myra D. Hyer; one grandson, Robert Sherman Hyer IV; one granddaughter, Lauren Middlebrooks; one sister, Alfreda Sorrels Clark, and a number of nieces, nephews and other friends.

Pallbearers will be John Segrest, Pete Johnson, Lyle Johnson, James Johnson, Michael Shuffield and Tod Haygood.

The family requests donations be made to the Mississippi Arthritis Foundation or Hospice Compassus.
