Lincoln County — A 4-year-old Mississippi girl died Thursday as a result of injuries suffered in a single-vehicle wreck in Lincoln County.
Mississippi Troop M Public Affairs Officer Rusty Boyd said the girl, whose name was not released, was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken to King’s Daughter Medical Center with severe injuries, and then airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson, where she died from her injuries.
“She was in a seatbelt but not a booster seat at the time of the collision,” Boyd said.
The Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol reported troopers first responded to the wreck scene on U.S. 51 near Forest Trail Northeast in Lincoln County at 6:44 p.m. Thursday.
“A 2003 Jaguar passenger vehicle, driven by Johnathan W. Thorpe II, 19, of 1571 Buttercup Trail Bogue Chitto, was southbound on U.S. 51,” Boyd said. “The vehicle ran off the west side of the roadway, rolled over and collided with a tree.”
Thorpe, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken by ambulance to Southwest Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
A front seat passenger, Michelle Goodwin, 16, 1068 W. David Britt Road Wesson, was taken by ambulance to SWRMC with moderate injuries.
“She was then transported to University Medical Center in Jackson,” Boyd said. “Goodwin was wearing (a seatbelt) during the collision.
“The cause of the collision is still under investigation.”
