NATCHEZ — An Adams County man has been indicted for the alleged sexual battery of a young relative.

Jesse Demetrius Penton, 41, 19 Atkinson Lane, was indicted on charges of sexual battery and exploitation of a child by an Adams County grand jury and was booked at the county jail Tuesday.

Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said the alleged sexual battery happened in Adams County over the course of multiple years, starting when the victim — a relative of Penton’s — was 9 years old.

The sheriff said the investigation started when the alleged victim told somebody about the battery, and the victim has since completed a forensic interview about the matter.

Penton was already in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a probation violation, for which he was booked in August, and remains in custody with no bond set.
