NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Herman Berry “Smitty” Smith Jr., 70, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Glenburney Nursing Home, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel in Natchez, with the Rev. Ernest Ford officiating.

Burial will follow in Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Smith was born May 4, 1943, in Harlington, Texas, the son of Herman Berry Sr. and Augustine Thomas Smith.

He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict and retired as a Sergeant First Class from the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal granparents, Cleveland and Anna Thomas; paternal grandparents, and one brother, Vernon Thomas.

Survivors include one daughter, Shuwanda Ford and husband, Jerry; three sons; one sister, Anna Ware and husband, Kenneth, of Natchez; six brothers, LeEdward Thomas and wife, Laura, James E. Thomas, Bobby Lee Smith, Bill Smith, Kenneth Smith and Wilbur Smith, all of Natchez; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one aunt, Annabelle Norman, of Fort Worth; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives an friends.
