Century 21 ransacked after break-in

NATCHEZ — Thieves trashed a local real estate office but apparently did not take anything of value.
Charlotte Copeland with Century 21 said she was at the business’ John R. Junkin Drive office until approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and when one of the agents went to the office at 11 a.m. Sunday, a large mess was discovered — files were pulled from cabinets, drawers were yanked from desks and papers were thrown everywhere.
The burglars apparently entered through a broken window and exited through a back door, which was left open, and in their haste to leave left flashlights on the floor, Copeland said.
Though they broke a locked office door and damaged a security box in another office — the box was empty — the burglars did not take more than a handful of loose change, she said.
“There was not a drawer they missed opening up,” she said. “They were apparently after cash, because everything else was left.”
While the initial shock of finding the office burglarized was scary, Copeland said there’s a silver lining to the episode.
“It gave us an opportunity to clean up our office,” she said, laughing.
