Girls Prep Roundup: Monterey ousted by Kilbourne

HARRISONBURG — The Monterey Lady Wolves were one and done at the Harrisonburg Tournament as they lost to the Kilbourne Lady Hawks 42-36 Thursday afternoon in a first-round game.
“They just made a few more shots then we did. That’s about it,” Monterey head coach Cary Shivley said.
Kilbourne was only up one point, 8-7, after one quarter of play before outscoring Monterey 11-6 in the second quarter and 10-7 in the third quarter for a 29-20 lead.
The Lady Wolves got found their shooting rhythm in the fourth quarter and scored 16 points, but they weren’t able to get enough stops to get back in the game.
Karlee Woodruff led the Lady Wolves with 12 points and Jody Duncan finished with seven points.
Monterey (8-6) next plays at LaSalle at 6 p.m. Monday.
ACCS 44, WCCA 17
WOODVILLE — Rachel House led Adams County Christian School with a game-high 13 points as the Lady Rebels defeated the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Lady Rams 44-17 Thursday night.
ACCS didn’t play its best game for three quarters, especially when it had the ball, yet still led WCCA 23-11 at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Rebels put away the Lady Rams with a 21-6 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Ashleigh Williams scored nine points and Jordan Petty added seven points for the Lady Rebels. Carmen Cavin led the Lady Rams with seven points.
ACCS (11-2) hosts Amite School Center at 6 p.m. today in its MAIS District 5-AA opener. WCCA (3-4) hosts Cenla Christian Academy at 6 pm. today.
