Prep Roundup: Monterey girls sneak by LaSalle

OLLA, La. — Karlee Woodruff led Monterey with 16 points as the Lady Wolves overcame a 22-point performance by LaSalle’s Tiffany Proffer to defeat the Lady Tigers 40-37 Monday night.

Monterey got off to a slow start and trailed LaSalle 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. But the second quarter ended up proving to be the big factor in the Lady Wolves’ win as they outscored the Lady Tigers 18-7 for a 25-17 halftime lead.

Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter to make it a 35-27 game in favor of the Lady Wolves. The Lady Tigers tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but they were only able to outscore the Lady Wolves 10-5.

Jody Duncan scored six points and Mary Chatman had five points for the Lady Wolves. Kierra Smith added 11 points for the Lady Tigers.

Monterey (9-6) plays at Block at 6 p.m. today.

Franklin County 48, West Lincoln 28

MEADVILLE — Tadayla Hunt led Franklin County with a game-high 10 points as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 48-28 win over the West Lincoln Lady Bears Monday night.

After the first quarter was over, it did not look like the Lady Bulldogs were on their way to a blowout victory. In fact, they trailed the Lady Bears 8-7 at that point. Then came a second quarter that West Lincoln would like to forget as it failed to score a single point and trailed Franklin County 19-8 at halftime.

It didn’t get much better for the Lady Bears in the third quarter as they were outscored by the Lady Bulldogs 15-6 and trailed 34-14 at the end of that quarter. Danielle Washington and Jada Hunt had nine points each for the Lady Bulldogs.

Franklin County (6-2) doesn’t play again until Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. when it hosts Amite County.

West Lincoln boys 60, Franklin County boys 47

MEADVILLE — Sam Bivens finished with a game-high 19 points and Duane Marshall had 17 points as the West Lincoln Bears defeated the Franklin County Bulldogs 60-47 Monday night.

West Lincoln and Franklin County were tied 13-13 after one quarter of play before the Bears took control of the game in the second quarter and they outscored the Bulldogs 20-11 for a 33-24 halftime lead.

And the Bears made sure that the Bulldogs would not mount a rally in the second half. West Lincoln outscored Franklin County 15-13 in the third quarter and 12-10 in the fourth quarter.

Del’Evante White led the Bulldogs with 11 points and Chris Robinson scored 10 points.

Franklin County (0-8) next plays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at home against Amite County.

Monterey boys 47, LaSalle boys 35

OLLA, La. — The Monterey Wolves improved to 10-4 on the season after defeating the LaSalle Tigers 47-35 Monday night. No other information on the game was available.

Monterey plays at Block today at 7:30 p.m.
