Weekend Ticket: Cool temperatures, fun on deck as holidays close

NATCHEZ — This weekend offers two days of cool sunshine for a nice downtown stroll, and even Sunday’s overcast forecast can’t dim the sparkle of a jeweled Christmas.
The forecast for Friday is clear skies with a high of 44 degrees and a low of 25, while Saturday’s skies will have a few more clouds, it’ll be warmer with a high of 58 and a low of 46.
Sunday may see some rain and drizzle, and temperatures will range from a low of 27 to a high of 60.
Natchez National Park Walking Tour
If a little nip in the air isn’t too much to keep you from a morning constitutional Saturday, Natchez National Historical Park will offer a free downtown walking tour titled “The Tornado of 1840” at 9 am.
The tour will meet at The William Johnson House located at 201 State St. and will last approximately 45 minutes. Bring comfortable walking shoes and water.

Civil War history presentation
For history buffs who don’t feel like strolling through the crisp January air, the Natchez National Historical Park will offer a free presentation about Civil War-era flags at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The presentation will be at the Melrose National Historic Site, located at 1 Melrose Ave., and will last approximately 45 minutes.

Jeweled Christmas
Even though Christmas Day has passed, the 12 days of Christmas aren’t over, and The Towers will continue hosting its annual Jeweled Christmas display through Saturday.
Thousands of pieces of vintage costume jewelry ranging from 1880 to 1950 will be on display throughout the Natchez grand mansion.
Tours will begin at 4 p.m. today; at 2 and 4 p.m. Friday and at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday.
