NATCHEZ — Services for David Prater Jr., 84, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Zion No.1 Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in Sunset View Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Prater was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Wilkinson County, the son of David Prater Sr. and Malinda McFarland.

He was employed by Johns Manville for 39 years. He was member of New Zion No. 1 Baptist Church, served faithfully as a deacon, church treasurer, assistant Sunday school superintendent, interim superintendent and Sunday school teacher until his recent illness.

He was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Prater was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Fred Prater, and one son Charles Prater.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Irving Prater; one son, Johnny L. Irving and wife, Marie, of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Derrick Irving and Cordell Irving and wife, Linda; three great-grandchildren, Ebony Irving Tucker and husband, Jamaal, Marie Irving and Kendra Irving; two great-great-grandchildren, Elijah and Emerald Irving, all of Las Vegas; and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
