NATCHEZ— Services for Harvey Mitchell Jr., 56, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 18. 2014, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. today at Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. James Johnson Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Mr. Mitchell was born April 2, 1957, in Natchez, the son of Harvey Mitchell Sr. and Edna Clay Mitchell.

He was employed for many years at the former Trace Haven Nursing Home.

Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and one nephew, Kevin Mitchell.

Survivors include one brother, Aubrey Roy Mitchell and wife, Ira, of Natchez; three sisters; Shirley C. Sashfras and husband, Dave, Edna C. Hutchins and husband, Claude, Gwendolyn M. Brady and husband, Steve, all of Natchez: two aunts, Ethel Rowan of Natchez and Rebecca Whitted of Chicago; three close first cousins, Vertis Flanagan, Jerlian King, and Mary King, all of Natchez; two godsisters, Brenda Jordan and her family, of Cypress, Texas and Velma Anderson and her family, of Natchez; extended family , Elbert “Mo” Lyles and wife, Tammy, Larry Profice and wife, Sandra, all of Natchez and Vernell Fleming wife, Carolyn of Jackson; and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and church family.

Pallbearers will be classmates of 1977 and family members.
