ATLANTA — Memorial services for Elsa Mae Newman Hawkins, 71, of Atlanta, who died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, in Lawrenceville, will be at a later date.
Mrs. Hawkins was born Aug. 6, 1942, in Natchez, the daughter of Walter and Ethel Newman.
She received her associate’s degree in applied science from Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
She was previously married to Claude Hawkins. She was loved and adored by her family and those who encounted her as a loyal friend, relative and neighbor.
Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include three sons, Claude E. Hawkins and wife, Katherine, of Fresno, Calif., Cedric Hawkins and wife, Tracia, of Albuquerque, N.M. and Daryl R. Hawkins and wife, Jameka, of Hanford, Calif.; three daughters, Lavoria Patterson, Regina Hawkins and Vanessa Hawkins, all of Atlanta; two brothers, Walter Newmans and wife, Williestien, of Natchez and Johnny Newman and wife, Charlie Mae, of Seattle; one sister, Estella Ellis and husband, Willie, of Natchez; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
