VIDALIA — Memorial services for Owen Gerald Hammontree, 77, of Monterey, who died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, in Alexandria, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia.
Private burial will be under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Hammondtree was born Aug. 19, 1936, in Magnolia, Ark., the son of Era and Lois Tissue Hammontree.
He was best known as a long time resident of Vidalia, where many friends will recall his outgoing character and willingness to help wherever needed.
He was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. Fishing was his favorite hobby, and he shared this sport with many friends and family member during his life.
He has also been an active member of the Free and Accepted Masons.
Anyone who ever met Gerald never forgot him.
Mr. Hammontree was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Elizabeth Joy Hammontree Foster; and one granddaughter, Kristy Lynn Foster.
Survivors include his sister, Coneil Hammontree Celles and husband, George L. Celles III of Natchitoches; special friend, Jean Wall of Natchitoches; and a number of nephews and nieces.
