NATCHEZ — The Mississippi Department of Transportation is restocking low supplies of de-icing materials, including sand and other items, and crews are working to keep the Mississippi River Bridge open.

MDOT District Engineer Albert White said the department is running low on supplies, but is currently restocking them.

“We’re not going to run out,” he said. “We’re planning to keep the bridge open. We’re going to fight it.”

MDOT crews pretreated bridges Monday and will continue to spray them with calcium chloride to melt ice as needed, White said. The department will also use sand and other materials as needed to keep bridges and roadways open.

Road and bridge closures will be updated as information becomes available.
