TYLERTOWN — A Florence man died Thursday when he was ejected from his vehicle after it hit a patch of ice and ran off the roadway in Walthall County.

James B. Simonton, 62, 230 Briarhill Cove, Florence, was heading west bound on Mississippi 48 in his 2004 Pontiac Aztek.

Simonton was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle after he hit a patch of ice and ran off the left side of the roadway.

Simonton was pronounced dead on scene by the Walthall County Coroner.

The collision remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
