NATCHEZ — Services for Mary Newborne Thomas, 70, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, in Meadville, will be at noon today at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. James Washington officiating.

Burial will follow in Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Natchez.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mrs. Thomas was born July 22, 1943, in Helena, Ark., the daughter of Jacob and Bessie Mitchell Newborne.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Thomas; one brother, David Smith; and two sisters, Joanna Newborne and Sarah Field.

Survivors include two sons, Tony Newborne Sr. and wife, Judy, of Hamburg and Tyrone Newborne Thomas and wife, Denise, of Topeka, Kan.; one daughter, Sandra Newborne McGuire and husband, Johnny, of Natchez; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Newborne and wife, Jamila, Laron Newborne and wife, Courtney, Tony Newborne Jr., Antony Newborne, Destiny Thomas, Diajionna Thomas, Tyrin Thomas and Tyvon Thomas; six great-grandchildren, three sisters, Dollie McGinister, Ernestine Sykes and Betty Washington, all of Chicago; a special nephew, Ricky Newborne Sr. and wife, Linda, of Madison; a special niece, Anita Newborne Flowers and husband, Charles, of Natchez; dearest and beloved friend of 54 years, Virginia Walker Hence; three special friends, Mary Sproulls White, Angela T. Minor and Laura Washington, all of Natchez; and a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
