NATCHEZ — Services for Dora M. Beard, 98, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Magnolia House, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Xavier V. and Rev. Paul Kunnumpuram officiating.
Burial will follow in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Ms. Beard was born Jan. 31, 1915, at Cozy Corners Plantation in Vidalia, the daughter of Charles P. Beard and Mary Cerniglia Beard.
She was a retired librarian from the University of Louisiana-Monroe and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Frank Licata, and one brother, Charles F. “Dutch” Beard.
Survivors include two nieces, Rosemary Simmons of Natchez and Rita Martin and husband, Michael, of Vidalia; one nephew, Charles “Buddy” Beard and wife, Judy, of Baton Rouge; sister in law, Ruby C. Beard of Vidalia; and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to thank her special caregivers, Melissa Williams, Tawanna Sewell and Carolyn Anderson and all the employees of the Magnolia House and Hospice Compassus.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Monroe, La.
