MOREAUVILLE, La. — After getting off to a slow start, Vidalia High School found its rhythm in the second quarter and their was little Avoyelles High School could do about it as the Vikings defeated the Mustangs 78-64 in an LHSAA District 3-3A game Tuesday night.
Three Vidalia players reached double figures and two others came close. Julius Wilson led the Vikings with a game-high 22 points while Isiah Thompson had 21 points and Overton Lewis added 12 points. Malik Jefferson contributed with nine points and Deion Brown chipped in with eight points.
Avoyelles played well in the first quarter and led Vidalia 16-13 at the end of the quarter. However, that lead would not last long as the Vikings took the momentum away and took control of the game.
The Vikings outscored the Mustangs 21-12 in the second quarter to take a 34-28 lead into halftime. The Mustangs tried to cut into the lead in the third quarter and they did make it a 47-43 game at the end of that quarter. But that’s as close as they would get as Vidalia outscored Avoyelles 31-21 in the fourth quarter.
Trey Williams led the Mustangs with 18 points and Desmond Alexander added 15 points.
