VIDALIA — Service for Eleanor Murray Talley, 84, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at today at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde RaEleanor Talley obit 020914y Webber officiating.

Burial will follow in Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Talley was born July 9, 1929, the daughter of John Leslie and Lola Vivian Matthews Murray.

She retired from the Natchez-Adams School district after 30 years of service. She belonged to the Audubon Society and was an avid birder. She was a member of the Concordia Parish Library Board since 2002 and on the Vidalia Planning Commission.

She was a member of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, a life member of the National Garden Club and Deep South Garden Club, served as cleanest city judge on numerous occasions, chairwoman of numerous projects of the LGCF, V District Director and local president of the Vidala Garden Club. She was well known as a Louisiana Garden Club Federation parliamentarian.

Mrs. Talley was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Terry Talley; one brother, Charles Murray; and one sister, Lola Ann Coley.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, James H. Talley, one son, Jim B. Talley and his life partner, Jeffrey Wayne Lyon, of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Loura Susan Owings and husband, Lindsey, of Huntsville, Texas; one foster brother, Robert Gray of McCloud, Calif.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephew Ray Bruce Curlee III of Vidalia; niece, Leslie Ann “Dee” Curlee of Vidalia; special friend, Barbara Coates of Epps, La.; a number of other nephews, nieces and friends.

Pallbearers will be Gregg Freeman, Ray Bruce Curlee IV, Jason Hebert, Justin Graves, Jeffrey Lyon and Jacob Harrison.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Bruce Curlee III, Judge George Murray, Lindsey Owings, Leslie Murray, Brett Murray and Charles “Scotter” Murray.
