NATCHEZ — An early Friday morning automobile wreck left a Natchez man dead and a second person hospitalized.

Daniel Young, 58, was pronounced dead on the scene after he was ejected from the Chevrolet Cavalier he was driving on Martin Luther King Jr. Street, Natchez Police Department Investigator Jerry Ford said.

The wreck happened shortly after midnight Friday.

According to a witness driving on the roadway at the time, the Cavalier approached a curve in the street at a high rate of speed, Ford said.

“As (the driver) slowed down, she noticed that (Young’s vehicle) was attempting to pass in a curve when (he) lost control of the vehicle,” Ford said.

The vehicle left the roadway and flipped several times, ejecting Young. A second occupant in the vehicle, Jessica Brown, 34, remained in the car but sustained serious injuries, Ford said.

Brown was initially taken to Natchez Community Hospital, but was later transported to a Jackson-area hospital, he said.

Ford said the cause of the wreck is undetermined, and the matter is under investigation.
