Power restored in parish; Miss-Lou remains under winter-storm warning

VIDALIA — Winter weather caused power outages across the City of Vidalia Tuesday night for several hours, but was later restored as the area remains under a winter-storm warning.

Power outages were reported throughout Vidalia Tuesday night from the foot of the Mississippi River Bridge as far as Vidalia High School.

City of Vidalia Utility Department employees were able to restore the majority of the city’s power by approximately 6 a.m. today.

Vidalia Police Chief Arthur Lewis said all roads and bridges in the city are still open, but urged residents to travel with caution.

No roads were reported closed in Adams County by the Mississippi Department of Transportation this morning. All lanes of I-20 at the Mississippi River Bridge in Vicksburg, however, are closed.

MDOT crews are monitoring the state’s interstates and highways, and motorists are encouraged to stay off roadways affected by winter weather.

Adams County and Concordia Parish remain under a winter-storm warning issued by the National Weather Service in Jackson. Freezing rain is expected to continue to result in accumulating ice. The warning remains in effect until noon today.
