NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was charged Wednesday after reportedly assaulting and robbing a woman in her house Jan. 27.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said James E. Banks, 23, 582 Inez St., kicked in the victim’s door at approximately 3 a.m., forced his way into her bedroom, punched her at least three times and then held her at gunpoint.

Another person sleeping a separate bedroom in the house heard the commotion and ran to help the victim. Banks then reportedly took the victim’s cell phone and some cash and fled.

Police were able to capture and charge Banks Wednesday after he reportedly returned to the victim’s house multiple times after the crime to walk back and forth in front of her house.

Banks was being held without bond Wednesday evening in the Natchez City Jail.
