NATCHEZ — An Adams County man was arrested Saturday for reportedly assaulting his elderly neighbor after the victim asked the man to move a truck blocking his vehicle.

Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said Brandon Jacob Welch, 25, 1107 First St., was charged with aggravated assault after “jumping” on his neighbor and beating the neighbor, who Mayfield said was a man in his 70s.

Mayfield said the victim reportedly asked Welch to move a truck so the neighbor could move a trailer. Words were reportedly exchanged, Mayfield said, and Welch then allegedly jumped the neighbor.

The victim was taken to Natchez Regional Medical Center, and then airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson because he had a broken cheekbone.

The victim was released after initial treatment and will return for surgery.

Welch was released from the Adams County Jail Monday afternoon on a $5,000 bond.
