ALEXANDRIA — Vidalia High School came one run short of a seventh-inning rally in a 6-5 loss to Peabody High School on Monday.
Down 6-2 in the top of the seventh, the Vikings scored three runs but stranded a runner to end the ballgame. For Vidalia head coach Kale Davis, that was one of many examples of Vidalia’s growing pains.
“We didn’t do the things that we have been doing,” Davis said. “We have to do a better job and absolutely cannot leave runners stranded.”
Cole Cangemi led the Vikings in hitting with two hits and an RBI, while Tyler Sandifer, Josh Foucher and Kyle Coley each doubled.
The Vikings held a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth inning, but that’s when the errors mounted. Two Viking errors led to four Peabody runs in the bottom of the inning.
“They came at such an inopportune time,” Davis said. “We had two outs, and those errors allowed Peabody runs.”
William Handjis was credited with the loss, as the Vikings fell to 4-3 on the seaso
