NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Charles M. “Chuck” Bass, 83, of Natchez, who died Friday, April 4, 2014, in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Sanders officiating.
Burial will follow at Central Baptist Cemetery in Wisner under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until time of services Monday at Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Bass was born Oct. 8, 1930 at home in Wisner, the son of Charles Clayton Bass and Carolyn Elizabeth Ursey Bass. After completing high school, he attended Louisiana State University, where he played basketball. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base during his service.
When he moved to Natchez, he was employed as a car salesman at Bluff City Motors for many years. Through the years, he developed many contacts and began a natural gas compression business. He worked for many major oil companies and traveled extensively throughout the south.
He and his sons opened the Natchez Landing in January 1981, where he participated as a silent partner. The Landing proved to be a successful venture.
Chuck always enjoyed hunting and fishing, and always had a camp. He lived at Deer Park for several years, and finally returned to Natchez in 1990.
During his retirement years, he continued to pursue industrial equipment sales, which proved to be successful until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sherry Boutwell, and one brother, Travis Bass.
Survivors include his former wife, Donna Marie Smith Bass; one daughter, Carolyn Schuchs and husband, James; two sons, Charles Clayton Bass and Guy Bass; four grandchildren, Margaret Kate Boutwell, Jared Schuchs, Travis Bass and Cody Bass; two great-grandchildren, Cailan and Lunden; two nephews, Ralph Bass and Mac Bass; one niece, Elaine Hoover; and a number of extended family members.
