NATCHEZ — A second Natchez man has been arrested in connection with a Feb. 23 East Stiers Lane killing.

Jhakeel Q. Hawkins, 20, 29B 1/2 Brenham Ave., was arrested on a charge of murder Friday by Natchez Police.

The charge is connected to the shooting death of Terrence Thornburg, 20, who died after he was shot in the back of the head at his residence on East Stiers Lane.

Another man, Maurice Davis, 22, 165 Tubman Circle, is also charged with murder in the case.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said when Davis was arrested in late March that Davis went to Thornburg’s residence to rob him because he lost money to Thornburg in a dice game, but the robbery turned sour and ended with Thornburg fatally shot.

Ford said Saturday Hawkins was charged because police were able to gather information he accompanied Davis to East Stiers Lane Feb. 23.

“They had pretty much conspired together to rob this gentleman, and it all went bad,” Ford said.

After the shooting, Thornburg’s family reported more than $1,100 in cash was missing from the house.

Ford said Hawkins was previously acquainted with the victim.

Hawkins was detained without bond Saturday.
