MONTEREY — The heavy rain that hammered the Miss-Lou region Monday afternoon forced the cancellation of the varsity softball game between LHSAA District 6-B opponents Grace Christian School and Monterey High School.
In an interesting twist, the Lady Wolves won the game when Grace Christian decided to forfeit it. That in turn gave Monterey, now 12-7 overall, the outright District 6-B championship with a 5-1 district record.
The Lady Wolves’ home finale against Georgetown High School that was scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon was also cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. Now Monterey will have to wait until Thursday to find out who its opponent will be for the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class B Playoffs.
Also, Cathedral High School’s varsity softball game at MHSAA Region 7-1A archrival St. Aloysius High School that was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, but was postponed after over four inches of rain fell in Vicksburg on Monday, will take place today at 5:30 p.m.
Natchez High School’s junior varsity and varsity baseball games at MHSAA Region 6-5A opponent Wingfield High School were postponed after over three inches of rain hit Jackson on Monday. No make-up date has been announced.
Also, Natchez High’s JV and varsity baseball home games against fellow Region 6-5A rival Brookhaven High School that were rained out on April 7 will be played today at 6 p.m.
Vidalia High School’s JV and varsity home baseball games against LHSAA District 3-3A opponent Caldwell Parish High School were a no go due to unplayable field conditions. The varsity game will be played today at 4 p.m. There will be no JV game played.
Vidalia High’s JV and varsity home softball games against District 3-3A rival Marksville High School were cancelled because Marksville could not find a bus driver. The games will not be made up. That is not good for Vidalia because the Lady Vikings are currently No. 17 in the recent power rankings for Class 3A.
Franklin County High School had to reschedule its varsity baseball game at MHSAA Region 7-3A foe Crystal Springs High School to today at 4 p.m. after its home game between the two teams was rained out on Monday and postponed until Tuesday night.
Block High School’s varsity baseball home game against LHSAA District 3-1A rival St. Mary’s High School was postponed yet again, this time due to unplayable field conditions. The game will be played today at 4 p.m.
