Trace visitors on the rise from last year

TUPELO — The Natchez Trace Parkway reported Monday 512,813 visited the parkway in April, a slight increase from April 2013.
So far this year, visitors to the National Park Service parkway have been on the rise compared to last year.
The NPS reports 1,893,461 travelers have visited the Natchez Trace Parkway so far this year. During the same time last year, 1,727,407 travelers visited the parkway.
“These numbers continue to put the Natchez Trace Parkway on track to be among the top ten most visited National Park Service sites,” Superintendent Mary Risser said in a press release.
Approximately 422,400 travelers visited the parkway in February compared to 422,579 in February 2013.
Approximately 491,600 travelers visited the parkway in March compared to 349,273 in January 2013.
Approximately 466,700 travelers visited the parkway in March compared to 443,307 in March 2013.
A report released by the National Park Service in March showed that 6,449,713 visitors to national parks in Mississippi spent $297.7 million and supported 2,436 jobs in the state in 2012.
